A wide, panoramic view of a large-scale outdoor religious ceremony held during Pope Francis’ visit to Corsica. The monumental stage is set against a hillside and stone monument, crowned with the words “A PACE” in large gold lettering. At the center of the stage stands a tall wooden cross behind an altar shaped like a boat, surrounded by senior clergy members in pink and white liturgical vestments. Large LED screens on either side broadcast the ceremony to the crowd. In the foreground, a vast audience gathers closely together, emphasizing the scale and significance of the event. Professional stage lighting, floral arrangements, and the dramatic natural backdrop combine to create a solemn, historic, and highly symbolic atmosphere characteristic of a major papal public appearance. Pope Francis’ visit to Corsica

Open-air ceremony, Technical Direction France 2024

Creating a cathedral under the sky

In just four weeks, Dorier engineered and delivered the first papal visit ever held in Corsica; a historic open-air ceremony attended by thousands. Spread across five interconnected sites, the event required seamless coordination between institutions, security forces, religious authorities, and local teams.

Our mission: design and operate an outdoor environment worthy of the moment, combining stage architecture, technical production, and large-scale logistics into a single coherent experience.

Dorier delivered the full technical ecosystem of the event:

  • Stage & structure design
  • Audiovisual direction
  • Technical production
  • Full technical direction
  • Event logistics & onsite management

Pope Francis stands at the altar, seated beneath a large wooden cross, while another senior clergyman addresses him from a lectern. Soft stage lighting, lit candles in the foreground, and a minimalist backdrop reinforce the contemplative and ceremonial atmosphere of the event.

The outcome

Four weeks to assemble and manage a core production team of 60 technical experts spread across Europe, all working simultaneously across five sites to deliver structures, AV systems, and full technical direction under extreme timelines. A team effort that ensured a coherent experience from arrival to ceremony, allowing the event to unfold smoothly, safely, and with profound human impact.

A project that demonstrated our ability to manage exceptional, high-stakes events where meaning and technical excellence must coexist perfectly, even under intense time constraints.
